Composite shingles are made of asphalt and laminated fiberglass. They give the look of real wood shakes while providing better protection and ventilation for a longer life span.
Composite shingles are very similar to other traditional shingles. They come in a large selection of styles and colors that mimic traditional roofing materials. Composite roof shingles are also extremely durable and long lasting compared to traditional asphalt or shake roofing materials.
Composition roofing allows for greater protection from the elements. The various parts or composite of such roofing not only give it strength, and durability, but also allow for different design choices.
Laminate shingles have become the most common choice in composition roofing. They are a more recent variant and are superior to the basic 3-Tab. Laminates have a second tabbed layer fused to a base shingle, effectively doubling the materials thickness. They have a strong resemblance to wood shake and are available in a wide range of colors.
Premium shingles are sometimes referred to as Grand Sequoia, Presidential, or Grand Canyons. They are a heavier Laminate and represent the absolute top of the line in Composition. They are thicker, heavier and physically larger than standard Laminates. Premium shingles often incorporate extra features like moss retardants and modified asphalts.
